XP (Experience Points) tracks your learning activity across DataCamp. You earn XP by completing courses, projects, practice exercises, and maintaining streaks. This article explains how XP works, where to find it, and what to do if something looks off.
What is XP, and how does it work?
XP is a way to measure your engagement with learning on DataCamp. You earn XP when you:
Complete course exercises and practices.
Work on projects or assessments.
Maintain daily streaks.
Use the mobile app for learning.
You do not lose XP for retaking lessons, and XP never expires. However, you won’t earn additional XP by repeating the same content once it’s been completed.
How much XP do I earn?
XP is awarded automatically when you complete exercises, projects, and other learning activities. The exact amount may vary depending on the type of content and whether hints or solution requests are used.
XP earned per task is reduced or removed if you request hints or solutions.
XP is not awarded for repeating the same exercises you've already completed.
You can track your total XP from your profile and compare activity using team leaderboards (if applicable). XP never expires and cannot be reset.
Where can I see my XP?
Your XP shows up in a few places:
Profile page: All-time XP total.
Course page: XP earned per course.
Leaderboards (Teams only): Shows XP earned over a timeframe like 7 or 30 days.
If your XP looks different between your profile and leaderboard, it’s because:
Leaderboards track only recent activity (not all-time totals).
Leaderboards update every 6 hours.
Team leaderboards may show filtered views (e.g., just your team or department).
Can I lose XP or reset my progress?
No. Once earned, XP cannot be lost or removed—even if you:
Cancel your subscription.
Leave a group or classroom.
Reset your course progress.
Resetting a course allows you to re-do the content, but it won’t reset your XP.
XP earned can only be removed if you delete your account. Please note that this action is permanent and cannot be reversed.
Why does my XP look wrong or decreased?
Here are common reasons why XP may appear missing:
Logged into the wrong account: Try checking other emails you’ve used with DataCamp.
Switched from a classroom or business account: Your progress and XP remain intact, but you must use the same login.
Leaderboard discrepancy: Your profile shows all-time XP; leaderboards show recent activity.
Group leaderboard filters: You might be viewing only a portion of the team’s XP totals.
XP never decreases—it may just appear that way due to filters or time-based views.
Can I earn XP for repeating courses?
No. Once you complete an exercise, repeating it won’t add more XP.
You can, however, earn more XP by:
Completing new courses or chapters.
Practicing in-app exercises.
Exploring new projects or skill assessments.
Troubleshooting tips

Make sure you’re logged into the correct email/account.
Try checking your XP on both desktop and mobile.
Look at the all-time total on your profile for the most accurate number.
