This guide shows you how to find members who haven’t started learning yet and re-engage them, so they build a lasting learning habit. The fastest way to do both is with Ask AI.

A member who hasn’t started has accepted their invitation and holds a license, but hasn’t completed any content yet. Not started members are also referred to as 0 XP members.

XP is earned by completing content on DataCamp. It’s the simplest signal of who is actively learning, so “0 XP” identifies members who have been inactive.

You can see how many members haven’t started on your Dashboard under Current Members’ Adoption. It’s the number in yellow.

Ask AI is the quickest way to get a full list of members who haven’t started. Open Ask AI from the left-hand menu, or use the prompt box at the top of your group dashboard:

Try this prompt: Show me all licensed members who have 0 XP, with their team and join date.

Ask AI shows the list as a table you can review straight away. To narrow it down, ask a follow-up question, for example:

Once you have your list, there are three ways to get members started. They work best together.

With Ask AI (recommended): In the same Ask AI conversation, ask it to create the assignment for you:

"Create an assignment for these members to complete [course name] by [date]."

Before it makes any changes, Ask AI shows you exactly what it’s going to do and waits for your confirmation.

In Assignments: Go to Assignments → Create Assignment -> Select a type of content to assign, you will now see an option to assign the content to "Members with no XP earned".

Tip: Start small. A short course or a single chapter works best. A small time commitment makes it easier to begin, so members are more likely to log in.

Instead of choosing the content yourself, set an XP target and a deadline, and let members pick what they want to learn. We recommend a 1,000 XP target with a 2–4 week deadline.

Members are more likely to start when an assignment or challenge comes with a short personal note. Use this template and tailor it to each member’s role:

"Hi [Name],

I noticed you haven’t had a chance to start on DataCamp yet. [Skill] is really useful for your role as [role], and even 15–20 minutes a week makes a difference.

A good place to start is [course name]. It takes about an hour.

If you have any trouble logging in or getting started, just reply to this message and I’ll help.

[Your name]"

Check back after a few weeks to see who has started earning XP. Repeat the steps above for anyone still at 0 XP, re-engagement usually takes a couple of nudges.
