About AI Tutor
Our AI Tutor experience is a new and innovative way to learn with DataCamp. We've embedded intelligence into the heart of the learning experience. Every lesson, challenge, and example is generated in real time to reflect who you are, what you know, what you're trying to achieve, and how you learn best. This is not an AI chatbot bolted onto existing content. This is a complete reimagination of what digital education can be.
- It's personal by design. Every session is unique, tailored to your level, goals, and context. You move faster through concepts you've already mastered, and go deeper into areas that challenge you
- It's relevant to your world. Whether you're an analyst in finance, a student starting out, or a marketer learning AI, your lessons adapt to the work you actually do
- It's always current. Only spend time building skills that matter. As the field evolves, so does your curriculum. What you learn in "AI Fundamentals" reflects the state of AI today, not six months ago
- It feels human. The future of learning is an always-on, personalized tutor. Most importantly, it doesn't feel like talking to a bot. Every step feels intuitive and engaging, like learning from a teacher who knows you
How is it different from Classic DataCamp?
In Classic DataCamp, the course content is expertly designed, hands-on, and effective. Sometimes, our curriculum is overlaid with an AI tutor that personalizes the conversation while chatting about the content on the side. Learning paths can also, of course, be customized. However, in these cases, the lessons and courses themselves remain static.
In the new AI Tutor experience, every session is built for—and customized to—you. Taught by our AI tutor, it's the closest equivalent to having a 1-on-1 instructor who teaches the course directly to you: guiding, responding, and evolving every step of the way.
There is a small onboarding in the AI Tutor experience that you will go through on your first time taking an AI Tutor course. From there, additional information is gradually gleaned through organic discussion while learning.
Starting an AI Tutor course or track
For curriculum that offers the new AI Tutor experience, you can choose between Classic DataCamp and AI Tutor options.
Switching between Classic and AI Tutor experiences
For courses available in standard version and AI Tutor mode, you can move between the two versions of a course at any time. This makes it easy to try both options and choose the learning experience that works best, without being locked into a single path.
Your progress is saved separately for Classic and AI Tutor. When switching, you pick up where you last left off in the respective version.
Skipping content
AI Tutor courses support the ability to skip content if you can demonstrate understanding of the concepts covered.
Course duration
As with Classic DataCamp, course duration depends on the topic. The biggest difference is that for AI Tutor you will see a time range for completion. Given that AI Tutor will adjust to your pacing, you may complete courses faster or slower than others.
XP
XP is earned as you complete the course. That is, you get 10% of the total XP for completing 10% of the course. More gamification features will be added in the future.
Mobile
AI Tutor courses are currently available on desktop web only.
In the meantime, if you begin an AI Tutor course on the Desktop version of DataCamp and then switch to mobile, your learning will default to the Classic version (where available).
For admins: Enabling AI Tutor
From 25 March 2026, our AI Tutor experience is available within DataCamp for Business plans (including Teams and Enterprise). Depending on your plan type, AI Tutor will either be automatically enabled or disabled.
You can enable or disable the AI Tutor experience in Group Hub under Settings > General > Learn AI Settings.
For admins: Assigning AI Tutor learning
You can assign courses to learners in Group Hub > Assignments > Create Assignment > Course.
If a course is available in both Classic and AI Tutor, the learner will be able to choose which version to start.
Custom tracks
If the custom track includes a full course: learners will be able to choose between AI Tutor and Classic. If AI Tutor is enabled by the organization, this will be the default mode shown.
While it is not currently possible to direct only to the AI Tutor version, we plan for this to be available in the future.
Assigning specific chapters
While full AI Tutor courses can be assigned to learners and added to custom tracks, this functionality is not currently available for specific AI Tutor chapters.
This is because AI Tutor courses are designed to be taken in sequence. The questions asked at the beginning (where we confirm the learner's role, goals, and prior experience with the topics in the course) impacts how the rest of the course is delivered.
