Application-specific instructions for CSV use

Google Sheets

  1. Open a blank Google Sheet and import the template CSV (via File → Import → Upload).
  2. Select the file on your device. Click on it to open.
  3. Enter option “Comma” on “Separator type” dropdown.
  4. Enter your updates in the appropriate columns (such as Email, Teams, or Role). Teams and Roles should be separated by semicolon not comma.
  5. Download the file back to CSV using File → Download → Comma-Separated Values (.csv).
  6. Upload it through the bulk-action tool modal.

Numbers (macOS / iOS)

  1. Open the template CSV file in Apple Numbers.
  2. Enter your updates in the appropriate columns (such as Email, Teams, or Role).
  3. Export the file as a CSV using File → Export To → CSV. Choose UTF-8 encoding if the option appears.
  4. Save the generated CSV and upload it using the bulk-action feature.

Numbers always uses your macOS locale for CSV export, so it chooses comma or semicolon automatically and doesn’t let you set the delimiter manually. To force Numbers to export CSV with commas, you need to temporarily switch your Mac’s region/language or number format settings to one that uses commas (such as United States or United Kingdom).

Change your Mac’s Region

  • Open System Settings → General → Language & Region
  • Under Region, select United States (or any region that uses commas for CSV).
  • Open your Numbers file.
  • Go to File → Export To → CSV.
  • Export the file, it will now use commas instead of semicolons.

Change Numbers format

  • Go to System Settings → General → Language & Region
  • Under format, select "1,234,567.89"
  • Close the dialog.
  • Export the file, it will now use commas instead of semicolons.

You can switch your region or number format back after exporting.

 Microsoft Excel

  1. Open the downloaded CSV template in Excel.
  2. Enter your updates in the appropriate columns (such as Email, Teams, or Role).
  3. Go to File → Save As and choose CSV (Comma-delimited) (.csv) as the file format.
  4. If Excel alerts you that some formatting will be lost, confirm. CSV files do not support formatting or formulas.
  5. Close Excel and use the saved CSV file for upload in the bulk-action tool.

Excel always uses your operating system locale for CSV export, so it chooses comma or semicolon automatically and doesn’t let you set the delimiter manually. To force Excel to export CSV with commas, you need to temporarily switch your operating system region and language (such as United States or United Kingdom).

Change your operating system region and language

Open System Settings → Time & Language → Language & Region

Select United States for both Country or Region and Region Format.

Open your Numbers file.

Go to File → Export To → CSV.

Export the file, it will now use commas instead of semicolons.

You can switch your region back after exporting if you like.

Good Practices

  • Ensure semicolons are used (not commas) to separate multiple values in a single cell.
  • Avoid extra sheets: keep only one sheet with the proper headers before exporting.
  • Test with a small set (few rows) first, this helps verify that the upload works as expected before doing a full bulk upload.
