Troubleshooting Course Errors on DataCamp

 Note: Articles in languages other than English are translated with the help of AI. While we aim for accuracy, some wording may vary slightly. If you notice anything that could be improved, we’d love to hear your feedback.

Use this guide to fix issues such as blank pages, code not running, content display failures, or other course-related errors.

Quick Fixes

Try these steps first:

If issues continue, run the System Check tool to identify technical problems.

For full compatibility, make sure your setup meets our System Requirements.

VM Exercise Errors (Power BI, Alteryx, Snowflake, Tableau, Excel, etc.)

If you're working on a VM-based exercise and run into issues like:

  • The workspace freezing or becoming unresponsive
  • Your workbook or file getting closed or lost
  • Being logged out of the session within the VM (not out of DataCamp itself)
  • Accidentally closing the browser window/tab where the tool (Snowflake, Alteryx, Power BI, Excel, etc.) was running

Try this first:

  • Look for the lightbulb icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen and click it.

    • If it's not there, that section is either already open, or it's been replaced by a "Can't log in?" button — see below.

  • Inside the lightbulb panel, you'll find three tabs: Context, Instructions, and Help.
    • Go to the Help tab and select Restart the session.

    • This only resets progress in that specific exercise, not the whole course.
    • If the exercise needs data loaded from previous exercises, follow the steps in the Context tab to reload it.

If you see a "Can't log in?" button instead of the lightbulb:

  • Choose Restart the session (same effect as above), or
  • Manually log in

Either path usually resolves the VM issues listed above.

If these steps don't resolve your issue, please reach out to our Support Team with a screenshot of your full screen and a detailed explanation of the error.

System Check: Failing Checks and Fixes

If any checks fail, follow the instructions below.
If you're using DataCamp through work or school, contact your IT administrator if needed.

Cookies – Failed

  • Enable cookies in your browser

  • Clear your browser cookies

  • If you're part of an organization, contact your IT administrator

  • Make sure all other checks are passing

  • Log out and log back into datacamp.com

  • If you're part of an organization, contact your IT administrator

Critical Requests – Failed

  • Ensure your firewall or security software allows important platform requests (e.g. loading videos)

  • Ensure that exceptions for the DataCamp domains are added to the network security solution (see System Requirements)

  • If you're part of an organization, contact your IT administrator

Reaching Domains – Failed

  • Ensure that exceptions for the DataCamp domains are added to the network security solution (see System Requirements)

Security Software That Might Interfere

If you're using any of the following tools, make sure they aren't blocking access to DataCamp:

  • Personal software: Norton, Avast, McAfee, Windows Defender

  • Workplace software: Corporate firewalls, proxies, or endpoint protection systems

  • Many work-owned devices or networks might contain security restrictions that prevent the content from displaying properly. In many of these cases, the System check will show as "Fail," and it will suggest contacting your IT Administrator, since they are the best equipped to adjust this setup (see image below for reference).

💡  You can create an IT ticket in your organization and share the screenshot of the System check along with a brief description of the error.

Still need help?

If you have contacted your IT team and the error persists after trying the troubleshooting mentioned above,  here's what to do:

  • Take a screenshot of the error along with the console results. To open the console, you need to hit right click > Select "Inspect" > Navigate to the Console tab

  • Include the specific exercise name and URL

  • Include a full screenshot of your System Check results
