What Happens When a Classroom Group Expires — And How to Regain Access

When your DataCamp Classroom group reaches the end of its 6-month access period, the group will automatically expire. This means both you and your students will lose Premium access to courses unless a new group is created. Below, we explain what expiration means, what you need to do next, and how to ensure continuous access for future classes.

What does expiration mean?

A DataCamp Classroom group provides you and your students with 6 months of free Premium access. This period starts on the group’s activation date — not the date students join.

When a group expires:

  • The group will become inactive in your dashboard.

  • Premium access will end for all members of that group.

  • You will no longer be able to assign or manage assignments for that group.

  • Students will retain progress on their accounts, but lose Premium features.

⚠️ There is no option to extend or reactivate an expired group.

How to regain access after expiration

To continue using DataCamp Classrooms, you’ll need to submit a new application and create a new group. Follow these steps:

1. Submit a new DataCamp Classrooms application

You can apply again by filling out the DataCamp Classrooms application form. When applying, make sure to include:

  • Your institutional email address

  • Accurate course or class name

  • A link to your personal faculty page or staff directory. We use this webpage to verify if you are an active teacher.

Applications are typically reviewed within a few business days. Once approved, a new Classroom group will be created.

2. Create a separate group for each term or course

DataCamp Classrooms are designed to support individual terms , so you should create a new group each time you start a new semester.

  • You can create multiple active groups at once (e.g., for different classes or lab sections).

  • Groups can have overlapping dates — this is helpful for instructors teaching multiple courses at the same time.

3. Re-Invite your students to the new group

Students from the expired group will not automatically transfer. To restore their access:

  • Share the invite link from your new group.

  • Students must accept the invitation using the same account they previously used.

Once they join the new group, they’ll regain Premium access for the next 6 months.

Important reminders

  • Group access lasts 6 months from the day the group is created — set reminders to apply again if needed.

  • You cannot extend or reactivate an existing group. A new application is always required.

  • After expiration, all assignments and group data (e.g., progress tracking, reports) from expired groups will no longer be editable or accessible.

    • Consider saving important data before the group expires.

Best practices for continuous access

To ensure your students have uninterrupted access throughout the academic year:

  • Plan ahead by applying for new access before your current group expires.

  • Keep your class details up to date on the application form to avoid delays.

  • Record assignment reports: Admins should record all assignment reports before the subscription expires to avoid losing access to this data.
  • Check group expiration date: Before assigning any assignments, check the group expiration date to ensure continuous access to DataCamp’s premium content and Classroom features for your students.
