Ask AI is an assistant built into Group Hub. You ask a question in plain language, and Ask AI answers with your group’s data or does the task for you. You don’t need to look through reports or settings yourself. Use it to see how your program is doing, find the right content for your learners, create assignments and custom tracks, and manage members and teams.
Who can use Ask AI
What you can do with Ask AI depends on your role in the group.

Ask AI can only do what your role already allows in Group Hub. For example, Managers can’t invite new members, so Ask AI can’t do this for them either. To learn more about roles, see For Business: Add Licenses, Invite Members and Manage Roles.
Is Ask AI available for my group?
Ask AI is available for Teams, Enterprise, and Classrooms & Donates groups.
Note: If you don’t see Ask AI in Group Hub, AI features may be turned off for your group. Group admins can’t change this setting. Contact our Support team and we’ll turn it on for you.
Where to find Ask AI
You can open Ask AI in two ways:
From the menu: Select Ask AI in the left-hand menu of Group Hub, just above Settings.
From a Group Hub page: Use the Ask AI prompt box at the top of the Dashboard, Members, Teams, Reporting, Assignments, Custom Tracks, Leaderboard, and AI Tutor Insights pages.
Each prompt box suggests questions that fit the page you’re on. Click a suggestion to send it straight away.
How to use Ask AI
Open Ask AI from the left-hand menu, or use the prompt box at the top of a Group Hub page.
Type your question or request, or click one of the suggested prompts.
Review the answer. For reports, you can export the results (see below).
If you asked Ask AI to make a change, check the details it shows you and confirm.
Reporting & Insights
Available to admins only.
Admins can use Ask AI to get insights about the group. The chat presents the answers in one of five formats, chosen automatically based on the question and the most suitable template for the type of data answered.
1. Tables
Best for lists and row-by-row data, such as members, courses, or completions.
Try asking:
“Who are our top performers?”
“Who in my group hasn’t started learning yet?”
“Which courses has each member completed, and when?”
In a table, you can search, sort, filter, and show or hide columns. You can also expand it to full screen and download it as a CSV file.
Note: Searching, sorting, and filtering only apply to the rows shown in the table, not to all of your group’s data.
2. Bar charts
Best for comparing categories, such as teams, courses, or technologies.
Try asking:
“Compare course completions across all teams this quarter.”
“Which technologies are my members spending the most time on?”
3. Line chart
Best for showing trends over time.
Try asking:
“How has XP earned changed week by week this quarter?”
“Show active learners per month since January.”
4. Pie chart
Best for showing proportions, or how a total is split.
Try asking:
“What share of our members have started learning?”
“Break down XP earned by topic.”
You can download any chart as a PNG image to share in presentations or reports.
5. Find content and assign it
Ask AI can find courses, tracks, projects, and other learning content. Results are shown as content cards, which are best for finding content and checking what fits your learners. To get the best recommendations, describe the learners you’re looking for content for, such as their role, proficiency level, and the technology or skill they need.
Try asking:
“Find AI-Tutor courses that are beginner-friendly.”
“Find beginner-friendly SQL courses for marketing analysts.”
“Recommend intermediate Python content for data engineers who already know the basics.”
“What should a finance team with no coding experience learn to start using AI at work?”
“Find advanced Power BI content for business analysts who build dashboards every day.”
“Suggest a short course on prompt engineering for HR managers.”
Once you’ve found the right content, ask Ask AI to assign it or turn it into a custom track in the same conversation:
“Assign the first course to the Marketing team, due November 30.”
“Create an assignment for these three courses for members who haven’t started yet, due December 15.”
“Create a custom track called ‘Python for Data Engineers’ with these courses.” (Enterprise plans only)
Note: Assignments and custom tracks follow your role permissions. Custom tracks are available on Enterprise plans only.
Create assignments, custom tracks, and manage your group
Available to Admins, Managers, and Team Managers, within their role permissions.
Ask AI can help you with:
Assignments: Create group or team assignments for courses, chapters, projects, tracks, custom tracks, assessments, certifications, or an XP goal. You can also add members to an assignment, and update, archive, unarchive, or delete assignments.
Custom tracks: Create, edit, publish, or archive custom tracks, and manage their external resources. Available on Enterprise plans only.
Members and invites: Invite members, create or remove invite links, withdraw pending invites, and update a member’s role or license.
Teams: Create, rename, or delete teams, and add or remove team members.
Waitlist: Approve or deny waitlist requests.
AI Tutor credits: View credit usage, and set default or custom credit limits for members.
Try asking:
“Assign the SQL Fundamentals track to the Marketing team, due November 30.”
“Create an Earn XP assignment of 1,000 XP for the Sales team, due in four weeks.”
“Create a custom track for new data analysts with an intro to SQL, Excel, and Power BI.” (Enterprise plans only)
“Invite these five people to my group: [email addresses].”

Ask AI can also answer questions about how DataCamp works, such as setting up SSO or using Group Hub. These answers come from our Help Center articles and include links to the articles they’re based on.
How Ask AI makes changes to your group
Important: Ask AI never makes changes on its own. Before it does anything, it shows you exactly what it’s going to do and waits for you to confirm. Nothing changes until you approve it.
Good to know
Data timing: Reports are based on data that is updated regularly, so results may be up to 24 hours behind the latest learning activity.
Your group only: Ask AI only works with the group you’re in. It can’t see or change other groups.
Accuracy: Ask AI can make mistakes, especially with broad or unclear questions. Check important numbers in Reporting before you make a decision based on them.
Conversations: To pick up where you left off, open the Ask AI page from the left-hand menu. Conversations are saved for 24 hours only.

Why can’t I see Ask AI in Group Hub?
If you can’t see Ask AI, AI features may be turned off for your group. Contact our Support team and we’ll turn it on for you.
Why can’t I ask Ask AI for reports?
Only Admins and Managers can use Ask AI for reports and insights. Team Managers can still use it to find content, create assignments, and manage their teams.
Can Ask AI create assignments and custom tracks?
Yes. Ask AI can create assignments for courses, tracks, projects, assessments, certifications, and XP goals. On Enterprise plans, it can also create and publish custom tracks. It always asks you to confirm before making any changes.
Will Ask AI make changes without asking me?
No. Ask AI always shows you what it’s going to do and waits for your confirmation before changing anything.
How up to date is the data in Ask AI?
Ask AI’s reports sync at the same time as your group reporting data (every 24h, check your dashboard for the last data sync time and date).
Can I export Ask AI results?
Yes. You can download tables as a CSV file and charts as a PNG image.
